Assenden Glass

Cast fish panel
Four glass panels in a white steel frame

Anne Arlidge - Glass Designer

In her studio in the Assenden valley Anne works with glass in many different ways.

She blows glass to form vases and deep-walled vessels; some of these she then cuts and polishes. Multilayered coloured shards and rods are also made using hot glass, then cast in the kiln to create panels and heavy platters.

Anne also makes a range of tableware that is sufficiently robust to go in the dishwasher.

Her recent work has been the development of cast glass organic forms. The castings are made in moulds taken from real fruit and vegetables. The techniques used to create the mould mean that each item is unique. Most recently she has further improved the casting process to make panels that include fish and other sea life.

Using the Middle Thames as inspiration, she has worked coloured glass into a series of cast panels to create the shafts of sunlight piercing the green depths and the glittering on the surface of the river. Also inspired by the river is group of large plates called "Leaves on the Water". These reflect the ever-changing moods of the water and the leaf forms carried on its surface.

All of Anne's work is very tactile, and these plates are particularly inviting to the touch.

Anne is a Member of the Contemporary Glass Society, Oxfordshire Craft Guild, Reading Artists, and Henley Art & Craft Guild, and has exhibited at several locations in England.

Anne Arlidge is pleased to accept commissions and can be contacted at her studio. Alternatively, some of her work is available from various galleries and stockists.
